Air Fryer Tuna Melt

Air Fryer Tuna melt has a few easy to follow steps for a crispy crunchy deli style sandwich made in the comfort of your own home.  The Convection of the Air Fryer is perfect for toasting the bread and enhances both the eye appeal of the sandwich and unlocking the flavors of the bread. In a medium size bowl: add tuna, mayonnaise, purple onion, fresh dill, dijon mustard, lemon juice and mix.

Season with salt & pepper to taste.

Tuna Salad

Preheat the air fryer to 370°F. Generously coat both sides of the sliced bread with cooking spray.

Place the bread in the air fryer and toast for 1-2 minutes or until lightly golden.

Remove one slice of the bread and set aside.

Place a slice of cheese on the bread remaining in the air fryer.

Then add layer of tuna salad

Then another slice of cheese.

Cook for 30 seconds or until the top layer of cheese has melted.

Put the removed slice of bread back in the air fryer atop the melted cheese. (Place the darkest toasted side down)

Air fry for 7-8 minutes (flip after 5 minutes). 

Serve immediately and enjoy!

Ingredients
  

  • 4 slices rye bread ¾" thick
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • cooking spray I used avocado oil spray

Tuna Salad

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) solid white tuna drained
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup chopped purple onion
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice about ½ lemon
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill or 1 tsp
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp pickle relish
  • salt & pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • In a medium size bowl: add tuna, mayonnaise, purple onion, fresh dill, dijon mustard, pickle relish, lemon juice and mix. Season with salt & pepper to taste.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 370°F. Generously coat both sides of the sliced bread with cooking spray. Place the bread in the air fryer and toast for 1-2 minutes or until lightly golden.
  • Remove one slice of the bread and set aside. Place a slice of cheese on the bread remaining in the air fryer, then add layer of tuna salad then another slice of cheese (gently press final layer of cheese against tuna salad to remove all air pockets, this will prevent the cheese from flying off during convection). Cook for 30 seconds or until the top layer of cheese has melted.
  • Put the removed slice of bread back in the air fryer atop the melted cheese. (Place the darkest toasted side down) Air fry for 7-8 minutes (flip after 5 minutes).  Watch the video for reference.
